I'm a novice at this stuff. Couple questions. I'm doing music--vocal acoustic guitars, etc. : Do compression first, eq first, or doesn't matter? Does what goes for vocals here also bssically go for instruments? Thx.

Is it okay to just compress bits where the audio has a noticeable spike? Or is it necessary to compress the entire audio clip at once in order for it to not sound patchy?

In audacity, you can change the waveform view to logarithmic db view. That way, you can see exactly where you need to start compression.

Equalization has been removed from Audacity, superseded by the two new effects: Filter Curve - uses drawn curves for the equalization Graphic EQ - users sliders for the equalization (similar to hardware graphic equalizers)

my audacity doesn't have a leveler, just a limiter which cuts off sound. Not what Im looking for.
